The paternal visit
So, I just dropped my father off at the airport after a very quick four-day visit. A good time was had by all. Dad left with a Berlin baseball cap, a little reflective Ampelmännchen (the iconographic traffic light of East Berlin), and the memories of some hearty German meals. And two croissants from the bakery near his hotel for the plane, which indicate a little country confusion, but we'll let that go.
That's three members of my family - Annie for Christmas, and then Mom last month - that I've met, shown the city (or, in Annie's case, its vegetarian restaurants) and dropped off in various airports or other transit places. The next time I see one of them at an airport, I'll be home.
